4-H House provides an excellent environment to excel academically at the Unversity of Illinois. Below are the academic requirements and available resources as well as current scholarships for eligible women of the house.
Academic Requirements
4H House is very dedicated to scholastic achievement. In order to initiate into the house, each girl must obtain a 2.6 grade point average. There are many resources available to help each girl meet that requirement. Mandatory 7-10 study hours are required for each new member during her first semester. Also, an academic advisor is appointed to each new memberr to keep tract of their progress and offer any help or advice needed. There are also many resources on campus that are available if needed.
Available Undergraduate Scholarships
4H House offers several different scholarships to its members each year. These scholarships were set up in memorial to various people who each left a special mark on 4H House. These scholarships include:
The Mary Thatcher (Mom T) Service Award - Established in 1994 in honor of "Mom T" who faithfully served as 4H Housemother from 1962-1988. The award carries on the values exemplified by our beloved "Mom T" who lived her life helping others. Voted on by the Active Chapter each semester.
The Debbie Steck Steele Memorial Scholarship - In memory of 1977 Univeristy of Illinois Alumnae Debbie Steck Steele who passed away in 1995. It is given to a current member of 4-H House who demonstrates a strong record of service to 4-H House and other campus organizations.
The Patricia Ann Borelli Outstanding Pledge Award - In memory of Patricia Ann Borelli a 4-H House Alumnae. This award is given to a pledge-active who demonstrates outstanding scholarship and Leadership. Voted on by Active Chapter each Spring.
The Jennifer and Jackie Esworthy Memorial Scholarship - In memory of Jen and Jackie Esworthy, killed a drunk driving crash in June 1997. The recipient of this award demonstrates leadership and dedication to 4-H House and involvement in campus activities. She should be or have been an officer of 4-H House or committee member and be an active member in good standing with 4-H House. She should demonstrate good character, honesty, and integrity, be caring, have a good sense of humor and be a Christian.
The Nedra Wesson Scholarship - In memory of Nedra Wesson a 4-H Alumna, a teacher, a wife, a mother, and a devoted Christian. This is awarded to a Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior on the basis of service, involvement, determination and compassion. Voted on by the Active Chapter.
Financial Need Award - Scholarship award based on financial need to confidential applicant
Scholarship Award - Awarded to one member in each class annually based on GPA.
